Brookfield Lacrosse Association Code of Conduct and Ethics

The Brookfield Lacrosse Association (BLA) is committed to fostering a positive and respectful environment for all participants, including players, coaches, parents, and officials. This Code of Conduct and Ethics outlines the expectations for behavior both on and off the field to ensure a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. All members of the BLA community are required to adhere to these guidelines.

Guidelines for Players

As a player representing the BLA, you are expected to:

  1.  Respect: Show respect towards teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators.

  2. Sportsmanship: Display good sportsmanship at all times, regardless of the outcome of the game, and at practices.

  3. Effort and Attitude: Attend practices and games ready to give your best effort and maintain a positive attitude.

  4. Rules and Regulations: Follow all rules of the game and the league, and adhere to Association policies.

  5. Inclusivity: Promote an inclusive environment that welcomes and supports players of all backgrounds and abilities.

Guidelines for Coaches

As a coach representing the BLA, you are expected to:

  1. Role Model: Serve as a positive role model for players in terms of behavior, attitude, and commitment.

  2. Development Focus: Prioritize the developmental needs of players, both in terms of skills and personal growth.

  3. Fair Play: Encourage fair play and respect for all participants in the game.

  4. Communication: Maintain open, respectful, and constructive communication with players, parents, officials, spectators, opposing teams, etc.

  5. Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of all players during practices and games.

Guidelines for Parents

As parents of players in the BLA, you are expected to:

  1.  Supportive Environment: Provide a supportive environment that encourages the development and enjoyment of the game for all players.

  2. Respect: Show respect towards coaches, officials, players, and other parents.

  3. Positive Reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement to support your child's participation and enjoyment of the sport.

  4. Sportsmanship: Demonstrate good sportsmanship by cheering for all players and respecting the decisions of officials.

  5. Involvement: Engage constructively with the organization, including volunteering and providing feedback when appropriate.

Progressive Disciplinary Action

The BLA is committed to addressing any breaches of this Code of Conduct and Ethics through a fair and transparent process. The following steps outline the progressive disciplinary actions that may be taken, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors:

  1. Verbal Warning: A verbal warning will be issued for minor infractions.

  2. Written Warning: A written warning will be provided for repeated or more serious infractions.

  3. Suspension: Temporary suspension from participating in BLA activities may be imposed for continued infractions or serious violations.

  4. Expulsion: In cases of severe misconduct, expulsion from the BLA may be considered.

All disciplinary actions will be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors to ensure fairness and consistency. Members have the right to appeal any disciplinary decision by submitting a written request to the Board.
